Mahn moves to Verizon Ventures

US-listed telecommunications group Verizon has hired Tammy Mahn as an Israel-based managing director for its corporate venturing arm, Verizon Ventures, the unit said on Wednesday.

The move comes at a time when the unit is bolstering its activities in Israel, having invested in internet-of-things (IoT) technology startup Wiliot and machine learning software developer Iguazio earlier this year.

Mahn will join another managing director in Israel, Merav Rotem Naaman, who was a Global Corporate Venturing Rising Star in 2018, and senior associate Gidon Azaryev, who came on board in February 2020.

Verizon Ventures hired Mahn after three years at AgriNation VC, agrochemical product producer Agrica’s early-stage venture capital vehicle. She had been managing partner since 2017 and helped define its investment thesis, targeting agricultural and food technology developers.

Mahn had previously had a two-year stint at Moonscape Ventures, a $120m investment fund formed by IoT technology producer AGT International, concentrating on areas including big data and analytics.

After studying physical chemistry Mahn took a job as a business analyst at consulting firm McKinsey before joining VC firm Evergreen Venture Partners where she focused on enterprise software deals.

Describing her other early roles, Mahn said: “My time at Evergreen eventually led to an investment role at Pitango, which is the largest venture fund in Israel by assets under management.

“During my four and a half years at this impressive firm, I learned how technology has the potential to bring great benefits to society, which took me to Hamilton Lane, an alternative investment management firm.”
