Microsoft Ventures makes Illusive investment

Israel-based cybersecurity technology producer Illusive Networks has received an undisclosed amount of equity financing from Microsoft Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of software provider Microsoft.

Illusive Networks has developed software dubbed Deceptions Everywhere that infiltrates its clients’ network with false information in order to deceive would-be hackers, intercept attempted hacks and provide information about their sources in order to mitigate damage.

Microsoft’s funding will be used to invest in sales and marketing, as well as an expansion of Illusive’s engineering and support teams for its core product.

The company had previously raised $30m in funding, according to a statement. It launched in June 2015 with $5m from Team8, the cybersecurity incubator backed by networking equipment provider Cisco and telecommunications equipment producer Alcatel-Lucent.

Citi Ventures, the venture capital subsidiary of financial services firm Citi, participated in Illusive’s $22m series B round in October the same year. The round was led by New Enterprise Associates and featured Bessemer Venture Partners, Innovation Endeavors and Marker.
