Modsy draws up $37m series C

US-based 3D home design service provider Modsy secured $37m on Tuesday in a series B round that included mass media group Comcast and media company Advance Publications.

Growth equity firm TCV led the round, which was filled out by venture capital firm Norwest Venture Partners (NVP) and unnamed existing investors. Comcast and Advance Publications took part through subsidiaries Comcast Ventures and Advance Venture Partners (AVP) respectively.

Founded in 2015 as Pencil + Pixel, Modsy operates an interior design service that creates a digital 3D rendition of a room using photos, measurements and the answers to a style quiz which takes the customer’s project needs, existing furniture and budget into account.

Users can also access the company’s retail marketplace to complete the project. The proceeds will be used to expand its marketplace, invest in its 3D automation technology and bolster its concierge shopping services.

AVP led a $23m series B for Modsy in 2017, investing alongside GV and BBG Ventures, respective subsidiaries of internet technology provider Alphabet and telecommunications firm Verizon, as well as Comcast Ventures and NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, a separate branch of Comcast.

NVP, Birchmere Ventures and AME Cloud Ventures completed the series B round, which came after Modsy had received $8m in a 2016 series A round featuring NVP and unnamed additional backers. It sourced $2.8m from NVP, Metamorphic Ventures and assorted angel investors the previous year.
