Molekule structures Foxconn-backed series A

US-based air purifier producer Molekule secured $10.1m in yesterday in a series A round that included contract manufacturing services provider Foxconn.

Crosslink Capital led the round, which also featured fellow venture capital firms SoftTech VC and Translink Capital.

Founded in 2014, Molekule has developed what it refers to as the world’s first molecular air purifier. It replaces and purifies air without using a fan, making it more energy efficient and less noisy than traditional systems.

The purifier is controllable through a mobile app, and utilises machine learning to adapt to the needs of each user. Molekule announced the funding as it released the device to the general public, following a sell-out of its pre-order purifiers in May 2016.

The company plans to put the funding toward increasing headcount and expanding its manufacturing capabilities as it looks to develop new products.

Molekule had previously raised $3.75m, according to VentureBeat, $3.25m of which was supplied in a May 2016 seed round led by SoftTech VC and backed by Crosslink and VC fund CSC Upshot.
