US-based cloud storage company Cleversafe has raised $31.4m in its extended series C round from a consortium including Motorola Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of mobile phone maker Motorola.
Reese Schroeder, managing director of Motorola Ventures, said: "Cleversafe’s compelling technology offers very high levels of security, scalability and significant cost savings compared to conventional approaches. We hope to leverage the Cleversafe cloud storage platform for our customers."
The other members of the consortium included venture capital firms New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and OCA Ventures and clients of investment adviser Anderson & Strudwick.
Last week, In-Q-Tel, the non-profit venture capital firm backed by the US security organizations such as the Central Intelligence Agency, said it had also invested in Cleversafe.
Cleversafe raised an undisclosed series B round in November 2006, according to another of its investors, Alsop Louie Partners.
