US-based video news provider NowThis Media has raised $6m from investors including media company Axel Springer and entertainment provider NBC Universal, according to TechCrunch.
Venture capital firm Lerer Hippeau Ventures led the round, which also included SoftBank Capital, a subsidiary of telecommunications firm SoftBank, and VC firm Oak Investment Partners.
NowThis Media, previously known as NowThis News, produces short video segments covering news stories that are designed to be shared on social media.
The company recently launched a branded content division called NowThis Studio and acquired Cliptamatic, a video management company that provided the technology for a video analysis and production tool called Switchboard that NowThis plans to launch next year.
The round follows a $4.8m series B raised in May 2013 from SoftBank Capital, Oak Investment, Lerer Hippeau and Bedrocket, and a $5m series A round secured in 2012.
