Oculus VR to make real $10m of funding

Oculus VR, the US-based virtual reality gaming platform owned by social network Facebook, is putting $10m of capital into a fund that will support indie game developers, VentureBeat has reported.

Funding will be available for indie developers working on content for its Oculus Rift VR system, which is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2016. The fund could also help Oculus secure exclusive games for the platform.

The initiative is an expansion of the Oculus Share platform, which enables prospective developers to upload game demos for an attendant community.

Anna Sweet, head of developer strategy for Oculus VR, said the fund was intended to help support the Rift’s expanding community of gamers and developers, and that Oculus wants to help build a future where anyone can be a creator.
