Oke plants himself in Nigeria

Tobi Oke has left Intel Capital, the corporate venture capital arm of semiconductor maker Intel, to launch Nigeria-based, technology-focused venture capital fund V8 Ventures.

Oke had been a director at Intel Capital since 2013 after stints at financial services firm HSBC’s Principal Investments division, where he was an investment officer, and Standard Chartered Bank, where he was an associate director in its Private Equity Africa team.

Lagos-based V8 operates as a co-working space and accelerator, and officially opened its doors in November 2016. Oke co-founded it with fellow founding partner Ugo Okoye to help Nigerian startups overcome some of the hurdles traditionally faced at the earliest stages.

Oke had been a V8 board member since July 2016 but formally left Intel in December to work on V8 on a full-time basis.
