Palantir Technologies, a US-based cybersecurity and data analytics software company, is reportedly set to announce a fresh funding round of $58m, likely rising to $100m, from undisclosed backers at a valuation of $9bn.
Only in September 2013, Palantir raised $196.5m, which took the funding for Palantir to a reported $498m for a business that was expected to turn over about $400m last year.
Investors in Palantir include US government-backed venture fund In-Q-Tel and Reed Elsevier Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Anglo-Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier, which led Palantir’s $34.9m series C round in November 2009.
The company was founded in 2004 by a group of Stanford computer scientists and former PayPal employees, including Peter Thiel.
