PetCoach, the US-based petcare services platform backed by mass media group Comcast, was acquired by pet product retailer Petco for an undisclosed amount on Tuesday.
PetCoach operates a platform that enables animal owners to connect with certified vets, pet nutrionists, trainers and groomers to receive personalised advice on improving the welfare of their pet.
Brock Weatherup, co-founder and chief executive of PetCoach, will join Petco as executive vice-president for strategic innovation and digital experience.
PetCoach raised $2m in a funding round led by Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of Comcast, as well as Maveron, DreamIt Ventures and Weatherup in November 2016. Pet-focused e-commerce company Pet360 had previously injected $300,000 in 2014.
Brock Weatherup said: “We are thrilled to be joining a talented team and a leading company like Petco. Connecting even more pet parents and their pets to the personalised tools, resources, veterinarian advice and products they need is exciting.
“Having had the opportunity to lead and build several startups, we are ready to bring the speed, innovation, competitiveness and scrappiness of entrepreneurialism to Petco, while leveraging their scale, infrastructure, resources and strong brand.”
