US-based mobile monetisation technology provider Phunware increased a series F round featuring corporates Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and WWE to $46m on Wednesday, according to a securities filing.
Founded in 2009, Phunware has developed a range of services that enables brands to monetise and engage users of their mobile apps by creating interactive experiences or placing advertising in their offering.
Phunware reached a $40m second close of the round in 2016 when it secured $22m from backers including PDLT Capital, the corporate venture capital unit of telecommunications firm PLDT, and sports entertainment provider WWE.
Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, Wavemaker Partners, Fraser McCombs Capital, Maxima Ventures, Central Texas Angel Network (CTAN) and Baylor Angel Network have also invested as part of the round.
Phunware began raising the funding in late 2015 and had initially targeted a $50m final close by the end of 2016. The latest regulatory filing indicates a targeted close of $56m.
The company has now raised $96m in total, including a $30m series E round in 2014 that included WWE, networking equipment manufacturer Cisco, Firsthand Technology Value Fund, Fraser McCombs, Maxima, Wild Basin Investment and CTan.
