Pitts leaves Verizon to go Backstage

Christie Pitts (pictured), has left US-based telecom firm Verizon’s corporate venturing unit, Verizon Ventures, to take a partner and chief of staff role at seed-stage investment fund Backstage Capital.

Pitts has been head of operations at Backstage, which was founded by managing partner Arlan Hamilton to back overachieving, underrepresented startup founders, since October 2016, but will be there full-time from August 1.

Pitts joined the Verizon Ventures team as a venture development manager in late 2015, having initially come to its parent in 2011. She said: “I am so grateful to the amazing team at Verizon Ventures.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure to support our fantastic portfolio companies and implement new initiatives to drive value.”

The move follows the departure of Verizon Ventures director David Famolari last month. He left in order to join Hearst Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of media group Hearst, as a managing director.
