Playdots spots investors for $10m series A

US-based mobile game studio Playdots has secured $10m in a series A round co-led by internet portal Tencent and venture capital firm Greycroft Partners.

The round’s other backers were VC firms Northzone and CrunchFund, and an Alphaworks syndicate comprised of Slow Ventures and a selection of angel investors including undisclosed game industry executives.

Playdots, which was founded in 2013, is the developer of mobile puzzle game Dots and its sequel TwoDots, which together have been installed by more than 45 million players in total.

Playdots CEO Paul Murphy said: “It has been immensely gratifying to watch millions of people across the globe engage with our games. This investment from an incredible set of partners will help Dots become one of the leading mobile-first games studios.”
