Cable and telecommunications service provider Comcast has led a $32.6m funding round for US-based adaptive wifi technology developer Plume Design that is expected to close at $37.5m.
Plume has created a cloud-powered, self-optimising wifi network system that uses pods installed in each room of a user’s home that adapt constantly in real time to ensure wifi remains steady and high-speed.
The size of the round was revealed through a regulatory filing while Comcast’s participation was reported by Axios and confirmed by the company.
Tyson Marian, Comcast’s head of emerging technology – new business development, has joined Plume’s board of directors. The funding comes after Plume raised $4.7m in January 2016, according to a regulatory filing.
Plume’s existing investors include Liberty Global Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of mass media company Liberty Global, as well as Jackson Square Ventures and Spark Capital, according to Axios.
