India-based biotechnology company Proklean obtained $550,000 from Infuse Ventures, a cleantech venture capital firm backed by oil company BP’s corporate venturing arm BP Ventures, and industrial conglomerate Godrej, Tech in Asia reported on Tuesday.
Founded in 2009, Proklean produces biodegradable products that reduce the need for chemicals in leather and textile processing as well as home cleaning products. Proklean’s technology is based on probiotics, a type of microorganism.
Proklean plans on using the latest funding to develop more products and support an expansion into more countries. It currently operates in 13 markets, including the US, Germany and China.
The company previously secured $6m from probiotic products manufacturer SCD Probiotics and Chennai Angels.
Kunal Upadhyay, chief executive of Infuse Ventures, said: “Proklean has developed a technology platform with wide-ranging applications across industries.
“Environmental concerns from industrial effluents are on the rise and we have seen very few innovative solutions and products to solve this problem. Proklean’s range of products addresses this major pain.”
