US-based communications platform PubNub obtained $20m on Wednesday through a series C round led by Sapphire Ventures, the venture capital firm spun out of software developer SAP.
Relay Ventures, a VC firm managing smartphone manufacturer Blackberry’s Partners Fund II, and VC firm Scale Venture Partners also participated in the round.
Founded in 2010, PubNub operates a communications platform and global infrastructure network that enable internet of things devices to be connected with each other and controlled in real-time across the world.
Scale led an $11m series B round in 2013 featuring Relay and Tie Angels. Relay previously led a $4.5m series A round in 2012 that also included Tie.
The series C funding will support continued growth efforts across the world, while part of the cash will be used to increase sales and marketing efforts.
Todd Greene, chief executive of PubNub, said: “Sapphire Ventures brings deep infrastructure expertise, a shared vision and commitment to our company’s global growth and success evidenced by its market development team.
“We are excited to work with Sapphire Ventures, Relay and Scale to achieve our vision to connect every device on the planet in real-time.”
