Qihoo 360 shows sense and invests in Profusa

US-based biotechnology company Profusa has raised $13.2m in series B funding from investors including cybersecuirty company Qihoo 360.

The round was co-led by venture capital firms 3E Bioventures and Asset Management Ventures, and also featured existing, unnamed series A shareholders.

Joan Braddi, vice-president of global product partnerships at internet technology producer Google and Karen Liu, managing partner at 3E Bioventures, have joined Profusa’s board of directors. Google does not appear to have invested in the round, however.

Founded in 2009, Profusa is working on sensors that can be implanted into the human body without being rejected by the immune system. The sensors are able to continuously monitor the body’s chemistry and transmit clinical data to detect diseases.

Profusa expects to bring its first product to the European market in 2016. It will use the series B funding to support product development and commercialisation.

The company has raised approximately $30m to date but has not released details about previous rounds.
