Qraved fancies $8m series B

Indonesia-based restaurant booking platform Qraved has closed a series B round at $8m with participation from corporate-backed venture capital firm 500 Startups, Tech in Asia reported on Friday.

The series B round was co-led by Richmond Global Ventures and Gobi Partners. Convergence Ventures, M&Y Partners and angel investor Toivo Annus, co-founder of voice-over-IP service Skype, also took part.

500 Startups manages several corporate-backed funds, including a $85m fund backed by advertising firm Dentsu, media company Yahoo Japan and Malaysian government-backed Malaysia Venture Capital Management.

Qraved enables users to book tables at more than 25,000 restaurants in Jakarta and Bali, though the company recently widened its business model by adding an app for food enthusiasts, including features such as reviews and ratings, and a related food blog.

The funding will help Qraved further develop its website and app. The money will also support marketing efforts.

Qraved previously obtained $1.3m in series A funding in November 2014. The round was co-led by Convergence Accel and M&Y Partners.

500 Startups participated in a 2013 seed round, alongside Rebright Partners, which led that round, and Toivo Annus. Qraved has not disclosed the size of its seed round.
