The prize pool of the OzApp Awards has grown to $300,000 after US-listed chip maker Qualcomm said it would provide a $100,000 convertible note to a winner of the Australian start-up competition through its corporate venturing, Qualcomm Ventures.
The prize will be awarded to one of the top 10 finalists of the OzApp event to be held next month.
Nagraj Kashyap, senior vice-president of Qualcomm Ventures, said: “Qualcomm is confident that applications, combined with smartphones embedded with power-efficient processors will accelerate the uptake of 3G services and beyond.”
“It’s great to have so many high quality organisations working with us on the OzApp Awards. This is the largest mobile app competition in the country and is building to be a major event for 2013,” added Rohan McDougall, director of intellectual property commercialisation at Curtin University.
