Qualcomm docks at Dover for $6m seed round

US-based cybersecurity technology startup Dover Microsystems has received $6m in a seed round featuring Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of mobile semiconductor producer Qualcomm.

Venture capital firm Hyperplane Venture Capital led the round, which also featured Draper, the research and development firm from which Dover was spun off, and Hub Angels Investment Group.

Dover is developing cybersecurity software that will protect the processors in internet-of-things (IoT) devices from network-based cyberattacks. The CoreGuard platform helps hardware enforce updatable cybersecurity policies with embedded vulnerabilities in mind.

The seed capital will go to expanding the startup’s engineering and product development. Jothy Rosenberg, co-founder and CEO of Dover, said: “Today’s cybersecurity solutions have left companies and individuals even more exposed.

“By rethinking cybersecurity and leveraging a hardware-based approach, we can eliminate network-based attacks and safeguard embedded devices from attacks that target software vulnerabilities.

“With the recent infusion from our investors, our mission will be to further evangelise true cybersecurity and continue to deliver trusted solutions that bring security, safety and privacy to the IoT industry.”
