US-based semiconductor technology producer Qualcomm has launched the Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator to spur innovation in the areas of robotics and intelligent machinery.
Qualcomm will host around 10 robotics companies in a dedicated area at the company’s headquarters in San Diego for a four-month programme beginning in May in partnership with start-up accelerator Techstars.
Each company will receive $120,000 in funding and connections to investors, corporations, and experienced entrepreneurs. Qualcomm executives, including chief technology officer Matt Grob, are among the programme’s mentors.
The Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator will also offer access to 3D printers, computer-aided design systems, a fabrication laboratory, and electronics hardware.
Qualcomm has stated that the total value of perks offered through the initiative is about $350,000, and the deadline to apply is February 22, 2015.
