Qualcomm launches third QPrize

US-based semiconductor company Qualcomm’s corporate venturing unit has launched its third QPrize, which will provide $100,000 in seed funding to regional winners of the competition.

Qualcomm Ventures’ QPrize is open to companies from China, India, Israel, Korea, North America, Western Europe. Brazil and Eastern Europe have also been added to the competition this year.  European winners will receive €100,000 in funding, instead of in dollars.

The overall winner of the competition, who will be selected from eight finalists, will also receive an additional $150,000 in convertible note funding.

Nagraj Kashyap, vice president of Qualcomm Ventures, said: "Qualcomm is proud of its role as an important enabler within the wireless industry and the QPrize competition allows us to identify and fund the next wave of up and coming innovators. Last year’s entrants redefined the capabilities of mobile technology and we are excited to see what the 2012 competition will hold."

The deadline to submit business plans for most regions is August 17, 2012.
