Qualcomm rings Bell for $12m series A

Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of semiconductor technology producer Qualcomm, has led a RMB80m ($12m) series A round for China-based education provider Bell Education Group, according to China Money Network.

Dark Horse Ventures, the incubator from which Bell Education emerged in 2009, also took part in the round, as did angel investor Yang Xiangyang.

Bell Education operates more than 170 institutes across China targeting children aged between three and 13 years. Students are able to play online games after class, while parents can access photos, videos and assessments of their children’s performance.

The funding will go towards an expansion of Bell’s offline networks and may support acquisitions, though further details have not been revealed.

Hu Xiang, partner at Dark Horse Ventures, said: “Bell Education combines offline education franchise with online study via games and fun activities, creating a great online-to-offline experience for children to learn.”
