The corporate venturing unit of US-based semiconductor company Qualcomm has reportedly backed South Korea-based telecom software developer IntelRa and the series B round of financing of China-based MoboTap, which makes the Dolphin web browser.
Qualcomm Ventures will invest around $1.8m in IntelRa, according to news provider Asia Private Equity Review. IntelRa was founded in 2009 and provides digital modules and digital RF systems for existing and next generation wired/wireless infrastructure networks for highly optimised, energy-effective and cost competitive systems.
MoboTap’s new round of funding backed by Qualcomm Ventures is rumored to surpass last summer’s amount, according to news provider Tech in Asia. MoboTap announced a $10m series A round of funding in July 2011 led by Sequoia Capital and Matrix Partners.
MoboTap develops the ‘Dolphin’ mobile web browser, a free web-browser specifically created and optimized for Android users.
The ‘Dolphin’ browser has hit more than 12 million downloads since its launch in 2010.
“Mobile browsers are now a very important tool for (mobile) end-users,” James Shen, vice president and managing director of Qualcomm Ventures China, told local media. “Dolphin Browser has also integrated different applications such as Sina Weibo and Evernote.”
