Peter Read has left his position as general partner at internet company Google’s $100m European corporate venturing fund, TechCrunch reported on Friday.
Read was one of the four general partners revealed when Google formed the London-based fund, an offshoot of its Google Ventures unit, in July 2014.
The other three founding partners, Eze Vidra, Tom Hulme and Avid Larizadeh, will remain in their posts and it is currently unclear whether a replacement for Read will be sought. A reason for his departure has not been given.
Read acts as managing director of advisory service Entertainment Insights and has also been active for some time as an angel investor, backing companies including e-commerce company Farfetch and film subscription service Mubi.
Investments made by Google Ventures through the European fund so far include music rights collection company Kobalt, digital advertising startup Yieldify and personalised children’s book publisher Lost My Name.
The unit also invested in Oxford Sciences Innovation, the UK-based university venturing fund formed by Oxford University, last month.
A Google Ventures spokesperson told TechCrunch: “We thank Peter for his contribution to building out Google Ventures in Europe and wish him all the best as he embarks on the next chapter.”
