Red Hat onboards Noobaa

Open-source software company Red Hat agreed yesterday to acquire Noobaa, a US-based data storage technology developer backed by content delivery network Akamai.

Founded in 2013, Noobaa has developed a platform which enables data to be transferred from one cloud to another and allows users to manage data stored in both private and public infrastructures including AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

Noobaa will be added to Red Hat’s portfolio of hybrid cloud technologies which enable users to manage data resources across multiple locations.

The acquisition comes after Noobaa raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Akamai, and equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd and venture capital firm Jerusalem Venture Partners in June 2017.

Ranga Rangachari, vice president and general manager at Red Hat, said: “Data portability is a key imperative for organisations building and deploying cloud-native applications across private and multiple clouds.

“NooBaa’s technologies will augment our portfolio and strengthen our ability to meet the needs of developers in today’s hybrid and multicloud world.”
