Roblox picks up Imbellus assets

Online game developer Roblox Corp has acquired the intellectual property assets of Imbellus, a US-based recruitment assessment software developer backed by business consultancy Gresham Lehrman Group (GLG).

Founded in 2015, Imbellus has developed a software platform that uses simulation-based cognitive assessments for the recruitment and education sectors, utilising game-like experiences, psychometrics and data science to evaluate how people think and test their knowledge.

The deal will support Roblox’s recruitment practices and it comes after the company filed for a $1bn initial public offering last month.

Imbellus founder and CEO Rebecca Kantar and its president and chief scientist, Jack Buckley, are among the Imbellus team members who will join Roblox, according to a statement on Imbellus’s website.

Venture capital fund Owl Ventures led a $14.5m series A round for Imbellus in November 2018 that also featured Rethink Education, Upfront Ventures and Thrive Capital.

The company had picked up $4m in a 2016 seed round backed by GLG, Upfront Ventures, Thrive Capital and Sound Ventures.
