Content-led marketing services provider Rock Content has bought Canada-based digital publishing platform developer Scribble Technologies for an undisclosed amount, enabling corporates OpenText and Rogers Communications to exit.
Founded in 2008, Scribble has created a web-based editorial blogging tool called ScribbleLive that has subsequently extended its reach into digital content-led marketing.
The company has also purchased content marketing production software developers I-on Interactive and Visually, both which will become part of Rock Content post-transaction.
Rock Content operates a content marketing portal that connects clients to a network of more than 80,000 creative professionals.
Rogers Ventures, the investment arm of media and telecoms firm Rogers Communications, joined venture capital firm Summerhill Venture Partners in Scribble’s $4m series A round in 2011.
Both returned for an $8m round in 2013 that was led by Georgian Partners and also backed by export credit agency Export Development Canada (EDC). Scribble closed a $12m series C round led by Waterloo Innovation Network Fund the following year that included all its existing investors.
Enterprise software provider OpenText led a $26.3m round for Scribble in 2015 through its OpenText Enterprise Apps Fund, investing with Rogers Venture Partners, Summerhill, Georgian Partners, EDC, Waterloo Innovation, Northleaf Venture Catalyst Fund, Emerillon Capital, Blue Cloud Ventures and an unnamed US-based asset manager.
