Rose plants himself outside Google Ventures

Kevin Rose has left his general partner position at Google Ventures, internet company Google’s corporate venturing unit, in order to focus on a new startup, North Technologies, Fortune reported on Wednesday.

Rose co-founded web recommendation site Digg in 2004 and mobile app developer Milk in 2011, subsequently joining Google when it bought Milk the following year. Rose moved to Google Ventures soon afterwards.

After two years, Rose announced in August 2014 that he planned to go part-time at Google Ventures in order to build up North, and the startup has since released two products, a photo and video sharing app called Tiiny and specialty watch-finding app Watchville.

This week North revealed it has raised a $5m seed round led by True Ventures that also featured Google Ventures, Greylock Partners, Redpoint Ventures, SV Angel, Sherpa Ventures, Lowercase Capital, Floodgate Capital, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, A-Grade, Melo7, Vayner and Launch Fund.

Rose said in an email: “I am focusing my efforts full-time on North with the hope of building great products. While I’m no longer investing for Google Ventures, I’m excited to remain on board as an advisor to the fund. I want to give a special thanks to the GV team for all of their support in getting North up and running.”
