Salesforce to exit as Adobe catches Livefyre

Diversified software producer Adobe Systems agreed yesterday to acquire US-based content curation company Livefyre for an undisclosed amount, giving an exit to enterprise software provider Salesforce.com.

Founded in 2009, Livefyre has built a platform that enables businesses to access content from social networks that can be streamed alongside their websites, television, advertising and apps. It has 65 million registered users and receives some 400 million unique visitors each month.

Adobe intends to integrate Livefyre into its web content management system, Adobe Experience Manager, and across its Adobe Marketing Cloud, making user generated content accessible across all its digital marketing platforms.

Aseem Chandra, vice-president of Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Target, explained: “As the leader in digital experiences, Adobe helps brands create amazing content with Creative Cloud and then deliver and optimise those experiences using Adobe Marketing Cloud.

“With this acquisition our customers will be able to unify the best social media content with branded experiences created in Adobe Creative Cloud and community-driven content in Adobe Behance and Adobe Stock.”

Livefyre had raised approximately $66m in venture funding, $32m of which came from a February 2015 series D round featuring Adobe and Salesforce Ventures, Salesforce’s corporate venturing unit.

Existing investors Cue Ball, Greycroft Partners, Hillsven Capital and U.S. Venture Partners also participated in the series D round. Additional Livefyre investors include FF Venture Capital and Zelkova Capital.
