Korea-based electronics corporation Samsung has reportedly approached “at least 10” India-based internet of things (IoT) startups to form partnerships, Indian daily Economic Times reported on Wednesday.
Wearable device maker SenseGiz is one of the firms Samsung has contacted, co-founder Abhishek Latthe told ET, explaining that Samsung was interested in an element of the technology rather than the watch itself.
Analysts believe Samsung sees India as a tester market for the company as it seeks to develop a technology offering that can compete with Google and Apple in the IoT space.
One of the businesses to benefit from its interest is Ineda Systems, the microprocessor company that secured $17m in April from Samsung and wireless technology company Qualcomm, while additional startups to be approached include home automation company Pluggx Labs and app developer Psi Phi Labs.
