SAP Ventures, the corporate venturing division of Germany-based software company SAP, has joined the third round of funding for Ireland-based Aepona.
BlackBerry Partners Fund, the investment vehicle for Canada-listed smart phone maker Research In Motion, joined Aepona’s $10m series C round last month. The other investors include venture capital firms Amadeus Capital Partners, Polaris Ventures, Nordic Venture Partners and Sutter Hill Ventures, as well as Innovacom, the corporate venturing division of France Telecom.
Jörg Sievert, a partner at SAP Ventures, said: "Enabling application developers to easily utilize telecommunication network assets has been an industry endeavor for many years, both for telecommunication operators as well as for application developers.
"Aepona’s solution, which is based on a decade of technology developments, has the potential of solving a core part of this challenge to the benefit of operators and application developers alike."
Aepona’s products are used by telecoms operators globally to power 1.2 billion monthly transactions and deliver $1bn annual revenues to operators and providers of application and content.
