Singtel helps dole out $25m to Qubole

US-based big data software provider Qubole has closed a $25m round co-led by Singtel Innov8, the corporate venturing subsidiary of telecoms firm Singapore Telecommunications.

Harmony Partners led the round, which included fellow venture capital firms CRV, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Institutional Venture Partners and Norwest Venture Partners, the latter of which is sponsored by financial services provider Wells Fargo.

Qubole has developed a big data analytics platform that hosts data in the cloud, using auto-scaled big data clusters and integrated toolsets to help developers and non-developers gain insights into the data generated by their companies.

The funding will be used to help Qubole expand its presence across Southeast Asia and markets such as India, Australia and Singapore.

Institutional Venture Partners previously led Qubole’s $30m series C round in January 2016, with participation from CRV, Lightspeed and Norwest.

CRV and Lightspeed had also contributed to the company’s $7m series A round in 2013 alongside angel investors Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaram, before Norwest led Qubole’s $13m series B the following year.

Punit Chiniwalla, senior director at Singtel Innov8, said: “There is a significant opportunity for big data in the Asia Pacific region. Qubole makes it easy for enterprises to access best-in-class analytics for quicker, more accurate decision making in a cost-efficient way.”
