Steven Sinofsky, former Microsoft executive, has joined venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a part-time board partner, in which capacity he will represent the firm on certain boards of companies in which it invests.
Sinofsky resigned from Microsoft in November 2012, shortly following the launch of Windows 8, a product with which he was closely involved as president of Microsoft’s Windows division.
Writing on his blog, Learning by Shipping, Sinosky says that he is excited by the prospect of spending more time with entrepreneurs: “I’m relatively new to the VC world and have a lot of learning to do—and I am very excited to do that. I can’t think of a better place to do this than a16z, as they share the commitment to learning and sharing that learning, for example through all the blog posts the GPs write.”
Sinfosky will continue his position as Entrpreneur-in-Residence at Harvard Business School, and will “continue to pursue other business and product development opportunities that arise.”
