Smartstudy and Baidu find common language

China-based education platform SmartStudy.com has raised $10.6m in series A funding from search engine giant Baidu, China Money Network reported on Thursday.

The start-up, which was launched in February, is an online study aid for Chinese students trying to pass English language courses such as TOEFL, IELTS and GRE. It will use the new capital for marketing, team building and the developemnt of new online content.

SmartStudy previously raised $1.6m in seed funding from an undisclosed angel investor.

Baidu’s investment is only its latest in a series of education-related start-ups. In August the company acquired education platform Chuanke.com for an undisclosed fee, having taken part in a series C round for test preparation service Wanxue Education the previous month.
