Instant messaging app provider Snapchat is investing an undisclosed amount in Jello Labs, the US-based developer of shopping app Spring, Re/Code has reported, citing two people familiar with the deal.
Spring is a mobile shopping app that works like dating app Tinder, enabling customers to swipe through a range of products on their phones and buy an item by swiping right.
The company raised $25m in a series B round featuring Google Ventures, internet company Google’s corporate venturing unit, Groupe Arnault, the investment firm backed by luxury goods producer LVMH, and venture capital firm Thrive Capital last month.
Snapchat was not listed among the series B investors, but a regulatory filing at the time indicated Jello Labs had targeted $30.7m in the round. Re/Code did not learn whether or not Snapchat had finalised its investment.
The investment could help Snapchat in its quest to boost the range of services available on its app. The company has branched out into events booking and money transfer, as well as introducing a feature that lets users record video and add music to picture messages.
Spring had raised $32.5m in total as of April this year. Its previous investors include BoxGroup, Lerer Hippeau Ventures and SV Angel.
