Sunmi orders series C

Sunmi Technology, a China-based point-of-sale technology developer backed by smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, has raised several hundreds of millions of renminbi (RMB100m = $15m) from unnamed investors, China Money Network reported today.

Founded in 2014, Sunmi provides handheld and desktop smart payment devices that use a proprietary Android-based payment system called Sunmiui. Restaurants can directly integrate food delivery apps such as Ele.me.

The company’s platform, open to developers, currently offers more than 3,000 applications that can be installed on the terminals. It also targets businesses in the supply chain, retail, tax services and payment sectors.

Sunmi previously collected $15m in a series B+ round provided by e-commerce company Weidian in 2015, adding to a $30m series B round supplied by Xiaomi, local discovery services platform Meituan-Dianping and Shenzhen Capital Group earlier that same year.

Xiaomi had already contributed to a $12.5m series A round in 2014 alongside Shenzhen Capital Group and angel investor Hu Zemin.
