T-Venture plots GraphDB uses

T-Venture, the corporate venturing unit of Germany-based phone operator Deutsche Telekom, has joined a consortium providing a "single digit million Euro" amount to Sones, a local developer of a graph database.

T-Venture had originally provided seed money to Sones in 2009 but for the series A round was joined by local bank KfW Bankengruppe and the Saxony state’s early stage venture capital fund, Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS).

Christian Sternitzke, associate at CFH Beteiligungsgesellschaft, which manages TGFS, said: "Sones uses a foundational technology which will play a significant role in the rapidly growing market of data handling with semi-structured and unstructured data.

"Sones’s GraphDB has great potential in the promising NoSQL market. The database suite addresses the needs in the automotive, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors as well as e-commerce."

The GraphDB links data from various SQL databases to store unstructured and semi-structred data, such as music and videos.

Sones will soon move its headquarters to Leipzig and maintain its existing office in Erfurt as a base for research and development.
