Israel-based mobile application (app) company Tawkon has raised further seed funding to take its overall financing to $1.5m for its seed round. Joining US-based consulting firm TASC and various angel investors were Israel-based investment company TheTime and angels including Israeli investor Zvika Barinboim.
Tawkon’s app is available for a range of mobile devices including the Android and the Blackberry and allows users to measure the level of radiation being given off by their handsets.
The potential for the app was boosted in May when the World Health Organization reclassified mobile phone signals as a carcinogen on the same risk level as gasoline engines.
However, Tawkon is perhaps best known for being personally turned down by Apple founder Steve Jobs when the company requested distribution through Apple’s official App Store, according to TechCrunch.
