Tech journalist Rao joins Google Ventures

Leena Rao, a senior editor at technology news site TechCrunch, is set to take up a position as an operating partner at Google Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of internet company Google, she announced yesterday.

Rao has been a reporter at TechCrunch since early 2009, after a six-month stint at the San Francisco Business Times and three years working as the director of community outreach for the office of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney in New York.

Rao did not disclose any details concerning her responsibilities in her new role, or the project on which she will be working, but stated that a clearer picture will be revealed later in the summer.

“We have an exciting vision for creating something that has never been developed within a VC firm,” she wrote on a post on TechCrunch. “It’s an opportunity for me to help build something from scratch and stretch myself in new ways.”
