France-based free-to-play game company Owlient, which is backed by the country’s main phone operator’s corporate venturing unit, has been sold to interactive entertainment company Ubisoft for an undisclosed sum.
In April 2008, France Telecom’s Innovacom backed Owlient, which makes games including Howrse, a horse riding game, with €3m ($4.2m).
Olivier Issaly, chief executive officer of Owlient, said: "We are proud of what our team has accomplished and confident that joining Ubisoft will allow us to continue that success. We would also like to thank our shareholder, Innovacom, [which] has accompanied the Owlient team over the years as we developed."
