Untangle, a US-based network software and appliance company which provides unified threat management for network administrators and IT decision-makers, has acquired US-based peer Cymphonix Corporation, a network management IT company which aims to help organizations diagnose and resolve internet usage challenges. Cymphonix was founded in 2004 and backed by Intel Capital, the strategic investment arm of microprocessor maker Intel. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Previously, Cymphonix raised $5.4m series A funding in 2005, extended in 2006, from Intel Capital and venture capital investors Prospector Equity Capital and vSpring Capital.
The acquisition is intended to enhance Untangle’s bandwidth management and application control offerings, as well as expanding Untangle’s reach into larger businesses and schools. For Cymphonix, the deal provides access to additional technology, web-based infrastructure, and investment capital.
Bob Walters, chief executive officer of Untangle, said: “Untangle has always followed a customer-centric, web-driven approach for its IT offerings. We intend to bring this same spirit of simplification to the comprehensive network traffic analysis and control solution offered by Cymphonix in the medium business market.”Cymphonix products will continue to be marketed and sold by Cymphonix via their website and from channel partners. Untangle is continuing to pursue strategic acquisitions of companies with related technologies.
