Zend Technologies, a US-based provider of software for developing and deploying hypertext preprocessor (PHP) applications to produce dynamic websites, has raised $9m in its sixth round of funding.
Zend has had a top tier of followers, including corporate venturing funds from Intel Capital and SAP Ventures.
US-based venture capital firm Greylock Partners led the $9m round, and was joined by peers Azure Capital Partners, Index Ventures, and Walden Israel Venture Capital as well as its two corporate investors.
News provider VentureWire said Zend had now raised about $43m in equity financing, which included $7m from financing company TriplePoint Capital and $20m in a series D round in August 2006.
Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Netscape, and Gaurav Dhillon, founder and former chief executive of Informatica, joined Zend’s board of directors in 2005.
Last year, Zend added 4,000 customers and expanded into the UK, the Netherlands and India and has more than 1,000,000 registered users.
Moshe Mor at Greylock Partners said: "Zend’s leadership position in the PHP space enables deeper adoption across a broad commercial audience in the US and around the globe."
More than 4 million developers use PHP for web applications, according to research company Gartner, including Zend customers BNP Paribas, General Electric, the US Senate, AT&T and DHL.
