US-based location sharing startup Glympse raised $12m in a series B round on Friday with backing from semiconductor manufacturer United Microelectronics Corporation and telecommunications firm Verizon through their respective corporate venturing arms UMC Capital and Verizon Ventures.
Other participants in the round include returning investors Ignition Partners, Menlo Ventures and Naya Ventures, along with several unnamed strategic partners.
Founded in 2008, Glympse offers location sharing and tracking services for mobile platforms. Its client base includes phone manufacturers Samsung and Blackberry, as well as vehicle manufacturers BMW, Mercedes, GM, Ford and Volvo.
To date, Glympse has only disclosed details of one previous round, a $7.5m series B led by Menlo Ventures and Ignition Partners in June 2011.
