Void, a US-based virtual reality (VR) technology developer backed by corporates including Qualcomm, Verizon, United Talent Agency and Walt Disney, has raised $20m from investment firm Lupa Systems, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.
James Murdoch, founder and chief executive of Lupa Systems, has joined the company’s board of directors following the investment, a source told Bloomberg.
Founded in 2015, Void has created entertainment experiences that enable users to immerse themselves in virtual reality worlds based on films such as Ghostbusters and Star Wars.
In June 2018, Void raised an undisclosed amount of funding in a series A round led by financial services group Fidelity Management and Research Company, according to Socaltech.
Qualcomm Ventures and Verizon Ventures, the respective corporate venturing arms of mobile chipmaker Qualcomm and mass media group Verizon, also took part in the round, as did entertainment and media groups Walt Disney, Pickled Entertainment and Madison Wells.
The round was filled out by theatre owner Cinemark, talent agency United Talent Agency and resort operator Genting Malaysia, as well as Shanda International Group, Meraas, Ithaca Media Ventures, Lion Capital and Fair Capital.
