Voxy, a US-based English language learning platform developer backed by educational products provider Pearson, has raised $12m in a round led by venture capital firm SJF Ventures.
SJF was joined by impact venturing firm and new investor Inherent Group, as well as existing VC investors Rethink Education, Contour Venture Partners, Weld North and GSV Acceleration.
Pearson and Rethink Education co-led Voxy’s $8.5m series B round in 2013, taking its overall funding to $16.5m. Pearson is understood to be going through changes in its corporate venturing strategy, according to insiders earlier this year.
Paul Gollash, Voxy CEO, said “This latest round of funding will allow us to work with more learners in historically underserved regions in support of their economic advancement, replicating our success in Brazil.”
