Vreugdenhil to replace Legrand at ING

Netherlands-based bank ING has promoted Annerie Vreugdenhil, head of wholesale banking innovation, to oversee ING Neo, a new unit to combine all of its innovation programmes and reporting directly to new CEO Steven van Rijswijk.

Benoît Legrand, ING’s current head of innovation and corporate venturing and former GCV Powerlist 2018 award winner, said he would continue to lead innovation and ING Ventures until 31 December.

He added: “I have conceived and prepared ING Neo to further enhance our execution capabilities and bring ING to the next level. I am sure that Annerie Vreugdenhil who worked with me in Innovation will run it with the same spirit and make it happen.”

Vreugdenhil responded: “Thanks Benoît Legrand for your passion and dedication to bring Innovation at ING to where it is today! I am excited to be given the opportunity to bring it to the next level from such a great foundation.”
In a statement, the bank said the realignment was intended to “increase the speed and impact of our performance”.

Van Rijswijk took over as CEO from Ralph Hamer earlier this year after Hamer agreed to join Switzerland-based bank UBS in February.
