Hodinkee and Watchville, two US-based news providers about watches, have merged and raised fresh funding from investors including internet company Google, TechCrunch reported yesterday.
Google, which invested through its corporate venturing arm Google Ventures, participated in the $3.6m round alongside True Ventures, and angel investors Evan Williams, Jason Fried and John Mayer.
Kevin Rose, who founded Watchville and will act as the new chief executive of the merged company, also contributed to the round. Rose was previously a partner at Google Ventures.
Rose said: “This is a merger of two companies. We just decided to get together and at the same time pull together some investors and tell them: this is the plan.”
