Wayra UnLtd calls for answers to UK social problems

Wayra UnLtd, the joint venture between Telefónica’s technology incubator unit Wayra UK and the UK charitable organization UnLtd (provider of support to social entrepreneurs in the UK), announced on 9 May 2013 that it was open to submissions from UK early stage digital social ventures.

Applications are being taken until mid-June; shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in a Wayra UnLtd Week.  Up to 10 of the applicants will receive £40,000 of funding, in exchange for an approximate 5-10% stake in their business, and office space for eight months in a new Wayra UnLtd Academy located in London.  The Academy plans to support 30 digitally-focussed start-ups over two years.

The partnership between Wayra and UnLtd was first announced in February 2013, and has been backed by the UK Government’s £10m Social Incubator Fund.
