US-based film review site Moviepilot obtained $16m in series B funding yesterday led by publishing group Webedia and featuring T-Venture of America, a corporate venturing unit of telecoms company Deutsche Telekom.
T-Venture led a consortium of previous investors, which include Creative Industries Berlin, DFJ Esprit, Grazia Equity and Passion Capital.
Moviepilot operates a community for film fans, specifically targeting millennials. The company was originally set up in Germany, but sold that business to Webedia for $20m in June 2014 to focus on the US.
The series B cash will enable Moviepilot to focus on video production and expand into other areas such as gaming, though the company has not yet decided whether it will incorporate that content into the main site or launch a dedicated platform.
T-Venture, Creative Industries Berlin, DFJ Esprit, Grazia and Passion contributed to a $7m series A round in 2012.
